  Description

Motivation. The spread of low cost, digital cameras triggered a revolution in the way people capture and share images, as is evident by the rise of photo and video sharing sites such as YouTube, DailyMotion or Flickr, to name a few. The intersection of computer vision and the internet gave rise to the emerging field of “Internet Vision'. Computer vision techniques are used to develop new ways to navigate visual content on the web, and the availability of large-scale, online photo collections led to tremendous progress in the field of object recognition and image understanding. This is just the beginning; Internet-enabled cameras offer radical new ways to capture and process images. Therefore, I believe that future computer vision algorithms should be developed for mobile devices that couple together a camera, a computing unit, and an internet connection. With a billion camera-phones sold in the last six years, and billions more expected to be sold in the coming years, the field of Internet Vision is certain to have a profound social and cultural impact on the way we capture and consume visual content. In the past several years I have been actively developing distributed and secure vision algorithms. I propose to extend and improve them.
